2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Feedback

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.

The president expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire message from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the new Director of the team. After a period of conversations, he starts with us on next week.

Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming field is vast, having dedicated the recent years creating and managing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
